Layan Green Park: building an eco-friendly future in Phuket
In a world where environmental stewardship is no longer just a trend but a vital necessity, VillaCarte Group strives to be at the forefront of sustainable development. Our landmark project, Layan Green Park, is a shining example. It's not just a place for comfortable living, but also the first eco-project in Phuket to earn the prestigious international EDGE certification.
“When we first ventured into development, it was crucial for us to build more than just another condominium in Thailand. We envisioned a project with a purpose – one that was eco-friendly and ideal for family holidays. We began exploring sustainable construction and realized this was precisely what was needed.
”
— shares Alexandra Chirkina, Shareholder at VillaCarte Group.
EDGE: A Game-Changing Standard
So, what exactly is EDGE? It's an innovative green building certification standard developed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) – a member of the World Bank Group. EDGE focuses on three key areas where maximum resource savings can be achieved:
Energy: Reducing electricity consumption through the use of energy-efficient lighting, air conditioning systems, and insulation.
Water: Minimizing water usage by installing water-saving plumbing fixtures and recycling systems.
Embodied Energy in Materials: Selecting construction materials with a low carbon footprint, whose production requires less energy.
Achieving EDGE certification for Layan Green Park means our project realizes at least 20% savings in all three of these categories compared to conventional buildings. These aren't just numbers; they represent a tangible contribution to preserving natural resources and reducing environmental impact.
Impact on Phuket's ecology: more than just construction
Creating Layan Green Park with EDGE certification is not only a demonstration of our capabilities but also a conscious step towards fostering a sustainable ecosystem in Phuket. We believe that development must go hand in hand with environmental responsibility, and our commitment extends beyond the walls of our projects. At VillaCarte Group, we actively implement ecological initiatives that reach beyond our construction sites:
Conscious Material Selection: During construction, we prioritize local and eco-friendly materials, reducing the carbon footprint from transportation and supporting the local economy.
Energy-Efficient Solutions: We implement solar panels and smart home systems to optimize energy consumption.
Water Resource Management: We utilize rainwater harvesting systems for irrigation and landscaping, as well as water treatment facilities.
Green Landscaping: We design and install planter boxes and maintain extensive green areas that promote biodiversity and improve air quality.
This approach and practice have been inherited by another project – Layan Verde, an even more ambitious and green development. As the project's lead architect, Mohammed Adib, stated, "If you don't see the building within the island's natural landscape, then we have achieved our goal." This project also embraces the concept of energy efficiency, and its interior designs incorporate natural materials.
A practice of care
Our commitment to ecology is evident not only in large-scale construction projects but also in our daily operations. The boutique hotel La Green, one of our projects, is an excellent example of how we integrate ecological principles into our operational activities.
For instance, at La Green, we regularly conduct:
Clean-ups of the surrounding areas and Layan Beach: The hotel team and volunteers regularly organize clean-up drives, contributing to the cleanliness of Phuket's beaches, which are so beloved by our guests and residents.
Staff training on eco-friendly practices: We educate employees on the importance of waste reduction, energy saving, and separate waste collection so these principles become part of their daily work.
Use of biodegradable materials and minimal plastic: Wherever possible, the hotel uses biodegradable cleaning products, disposable tableware (if necessary), and other consumables in its restaurants, bars, and room service.
At VillaCarte Group, we understand that the future of premium living in Phuket is intrinsically linked to preserving its unique natural environment. Layan Green Park and our ongoing initiatives prove that luxury can be eco-friendly, and development can be sustainable. We're not just building structures; we're building a future where harmony with nature is the highest value.
